"Mediatization and Media Socialization"

15.09.2014

From 17 to 19 September 2014 the joint conference of the DFG priority program 1505 "Mediatized Worlds", the "sociology of media communication" division of the DGPuK (German Communication Association), the "sociology of media and communication" section of the GSA (German Sociological Association) takes place at the University of Siegen, Germany

When it comes to questions of the integration of different media into everyday life and the consequences of these processes for growing up and living together in the short, mid- and long term, the research areas mediatization and media socialization are currently at the forefront. One important commonality of the two research areas is their emphasis on a processual perspective, i.e. focussing on questions of communicative, social and cultural change.

The aim of the conference "Mediatization and Media Socialization: Complementary or Competing Perspectives?" is to intensify the dialogue between both research areas, to explore relations and 'task sharings', to discuss affinities as well as incompatibilities, and to develop perspectives for mediatization research and media socialization research.

On Septeber 18, Friedrich Krotz, coordinator of the priority program "Mediatized Worlds" will hold a keynote entitled Lebenslange Sozialisation in mediatisierten sozialen Welten: Konzeptionelle Überlegungen.

Further presentations by members of the priority program at the conference are:

  • Martin Guljamow/Steffen Lepa: Mediensozialisation als Aufwachsen in materiellen Medienumgebungen: Zur digitalen Mediatisierung des alltäglichen Musikhörens Jugendlicher
  • Ulrike Wagner/Niels Brüggen/Christa Gebel: Mediatisierte Sozialisation? Medienaneignung als Forschungszugang zu Sozialisation unter aktuellen medialen und gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen
  • Heike Greschke: Vom "bowing letter" zum "always on": Medien_Sozialisation in transnationalen Familien

Please find further information on the conference and the entire conference program on the conference website.
