Call for Papers - Mediatization and Media Socialization: Complementary or Competing Perspectives?

04.03.2014

Joint conference of the "sociology of media communication" division of the DGPuK (German Communication Association), the "sociology of media and communication" section of the GSA (German Sociological Association) and the DFG Priority Program 1505 "Mediatized Worlds", September 18-19, 2014 at the University of Siegen, Germany. Deadline for contributions is March 31, 2014.

When it comes to questions of the integration of different media into everyday life and the consequences of these processes for growing up and living together in the short, mid- and long term, the research areas mediatization and media socialization are currently at the forefront. One important commonality of the two research areas is their emphasis on a processual perspective, i.e. focussing on questions of communicative, social and cultural change.

The aim of the conference "Mediatization and Media Socialization" is to intensify the dialogue between both research areas, to explore relations and 'task sharings', to discuss affinities as well as incompatibilities, and to develop perspectives for mediatization research and media socialization research.

The full call for papers (in German) can be downloaded here.
